SJE Celebrates 50 Years of Business

DETROIT LAKES, Minnesota (March 18, 2025) – SJE Inc. celebrates their 50th anniversary. In advance of anniversary celebrations, SJE Inc. looks back at their legacy as they continue to positively impact lives and future generations around the world by providing exceptional control solutions. Steve Johnson founded SJE in 1975 in Minnesota to provide solutions for a commonly experienced problem. At the time of SJE’s founding, waste holding tanks could not be easily monitored. This meant that homeowners could experience a backup in their home or require a near-emergency service visit. Steve invented the first float in his garage using a plastic bottle and a tether, which used the slack in the tether to measure fluid levels. Now a service call can be made before an issue arises. Since then, SJE’s solutions have been positively impacting communities. Advancements in technology have allowed SJE to offer creative and cutting-edge solutions. Wireless technology, such as Bluetooth, not only benefits property owners who can accurately monitor their systems in real time, but also benefits service providers by allowing them to work proactively and distribute workloads. SJE’s driven innovators will continue to explore solutions that improve lives now and in the future. Now, SJE is the global industry leader in quality control solutions, with over 65 design and utility patents. SJE offers a lineup of standard products and a team of engineers who can provide custom solutions for various commercial and residential applications. Each product is extensively tested both in-house and in the field, demonstrating SJE’s commitment to quality and integrity. SJE’s built-to-last control panels can be found installed at the University of Arizona, Phoenix, Disney World in Orlando, Florida, and many other locations.
